How can you tell a group is ready for the next step?
Five signs:
- Its goal no longer fits the parent company.
- The group has a world of its own: customers, suppliers and language.
- Its costs can be shown separately.
- It needs something the parent cannot give.
- The references back to the parent are shrinking.
This holds for any team that becomes something of its own. In my book Het autonome AI-bedrijf you can see it in Sawasara, a fictional company that serves as the example.
